Venerdì 25 ottobre 2024 dalle ore 18.00 la galleria EContemporary è lieta di invitarvi all’inaugurazione della mostra | [tàn-dem] esercizi di utile inutilità – parte due – forse non utile | di Susan Petri.
Susan Petri ritorna in galleria dopo due anni con una nuova serie di collage e serigrafie che continuano, con nuovo vigore, il percorso intrapreso con la mostra precedente evidenziando l’evoluzione artistica e rappresentativa dei pensieri intimi dell’artista declinati con il suo medium preferito:la carta
Il titolo nasce dallo studio dell’origine della parola tandem che indicava una carrozza leggera trainata da una coppia di cavalli messi in linea; ora, più comunemente, ricorda un tipo di bicicletta. Susan Petri ha voluto utilizzarla nella sua estensione tecnica, intesa come la disposizione a catena di due o più dispositivi o macchine, eguali o simili, collegati in modo che i loro effetti vadano a sommarsi.
Questa etimologia descrive vividamente il processo che accompagna la tecnica seguita dall’artista, in cui il pensiero insito nei suoi collage alimenta la ricerca di un armonico equilibrio tra gli elementi che corrisponde al bisogno di elaborare visivamente il suo mondo interiore.
Questa dinamica – urgente e a lei necessaria – non pone l’accento sul singolo elemento generato, ma su come quel singolo elemento si rapporta agli altri e sull’obiettivo finale di un insieme che è sempre qualcosa di più della somma delle sue parti: un [tàn-dem] che muove i meccanismi interni all’opera, che rimbalza e coinvolge chi osserva e, in questo, si potenzia e si somma ancora … ancora … ancora.
La tecnica del collage per Susan Petri è uno strumento di osservazione e introspezione. Stabilizzare il flusso delle idee nelle composizioni si traduce in una dichiarata forma di meditazione, di espressione e di libertà. Uno sguardo sul mondo e sul proprio vissuto in cui non mancano l’ironia, la joie de vivre e le parole che spesso accompagnano i lavori.
Nel percorso espositivo costituito da una nuova serie di collage e sergrafie ci sarà l’inserimento di una piccola sorpresa: le opere di carta di Susan Petri dialogheranno con delle opere, sempre dell’artista, ma realizzate in tessuto.
Anche questo esperimento è un proseguo di quanto iniziato nella mostra precedente con l’obiettivo di andare oltre al semplice gesto artisitco per coniugare l’arte creativa con quella da indossare.
La mostra sarà visitabile sino al 21 dicembre 2024.

Susan Petri returns to the gallery after two years with a new series of collages and serographs that continue, with new vigour, the path undertaken with the previous exhibition, highlighting the artistic and representative evolution of the artist’s intimate thoughts declined in her favourite medium: paper
The title stems from a study of the origin of the word tandem, which indicated a light carriage drawn by a pair of horses placed in a line; now, more commonly, it recalls a type of bicycle. Susan Petri wanted to use it in its technical extension, understood as the chain arrangement of two or more devices or machines, equal or similar, connected in such a way that their effects add up.
This etymology vividly describes the process that accompanies the technique followed by the artist, in which the thought inherent in her collages fuels the search for a harmonious balance between elements that corresponds to the need to visually elaborate her own inner world.
This dynamic – urgent and necessary for her – does not focus on the single element generated, but on how that single element relates to the others and on the final goal of a whole that is always something more than the sum of its parts: a [tàn-dem] that moves the internal mechanisms of the work, that rebounds and involves the observer and, in this, is strengthened and added up again … again.
The collage technique for Susan Petri is a tool for observation and introspection. Stabilising the flow of ideas in compositions results in a declared form of meditation, expression and freedom. A look at the world and her own experience in which there is no lack of irony, joie de vivre and words that often accompany the works.
In the exhibition path consisting of a new series of collages and serographs, there will be a small surprise: Susan Petri’s paper works will dialogue with works, also by the artist, but made of fabric.
This experiment is also a prosecution of what was started in the previous exhibition with the aim of going beyond the simple artistic gesture but bringing together creative art and wearable art.The exhibition will be open to the public from 25 October to 21 December 2024
